I have posted depreciation for 2012 but want to add an additional amount to one asset and rerun the posting, will that work?

Question:

I have already posted the depreciation for June 2012. I have an invoice that is dated 6/2012 and it would add on value to an existing fixed asset. If I add on the additional amount to the asset and re-run the June 2012 posting, will that only change the depreciation for that one fixed asset?

Resolution:

The add on value (Fixed Assets Master Menu, "Add-on Depreciation" option 24) will spread the added depreciation for the asset over the remaining un-posted fixed asset detail records for a selected asset. For example, if an asset is being depreciated over a 12 month period at 83.33 per period and the first two periods have been posted, an add on value of $100.00 will increase the unposted ten periods by $10 ($84.33) for the selected asset. It was not designed to change posted depreciation.

In order to re-post the June depreciation for all assets as well as add on the June depreciation for an asset, the fixed asset detail Status flag would need to cleared for all June asset depreciation prior to the add on value update and to re-post all depreciation. An SQL statement or program would need to be created to make this happen (i.e., a programmer would need to involved.) PLEASE NOTE - This assumes that the journal entry batch has not been updated.
